Essential equipment secured to enhance Muscle Team services at RJAH

The Neuromuscular Team at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital (RJAH) is delighted to announce that new equipment, funded by the League of Friends, is now in place and actively supporting patients with complex needs.

The Muscle Team provides a seamless service to both paediatric and adult patients at the Oswestry-based hospital, many of whom face significant physical challenges.

Thanks to the generosity of the League of Friends, who provided over £13,000 to fund this equipment, care delivery is being transformed – these new resources ensure patients continue to receive the highest standard of treatment in a safe and supportive environment.

The new additions include ceiling tracking hoists with weighing scales and a wide plinth, located The Headley Court Veterans’ Orthopaedic Centre, which have significantly improved the delivery of outpatient services for adult patients.

These vital tools allow the Muscle Team to provide high-quality care to patients who are wheelchair-dependent or require ventilators for breathing.

This development comes in response to a growing demand for adult clinics due to new outcome measures for patients on gene-modifying treatments.

Moving adult services from the Children’s Outpatient Department to the new dedicated space has not only alleviated space pressures but also ensured a more suitable environment for adult patient care.

Dr Richa Kulshrestha, Consultant in Paediatric Neuro-disability, said: “We know that the environment where care is delivered plays a crucial role in the recovery process – the new facilities are designed with both patient comfort and medical excellence in mind.

“Our goal is not just to treat the body but to support the emotional and mental well-being of all patients who walk through our doors.

“Patients can now access a range of services in modern, purpose-built spaces, improving efficiency and ensuring that they receive the most effective treatments available.

“We are immensely grateful to the League of Friends for their generosity in funding this vital equipment – all our patients are appreciating the new set up.”

Victoria Sugden, Charity Director, said: “We are delighted to support the Muscle Team with this essential equipment. It is wonderful to see how these new resources are already making a real difference in the lives of patients and helping the team to deliver the best possible care.”
