The free session will examine how AI-assisted clinical coding could help GP practices respond to growing administrative and workforce pressures
GP practices across Wales are being invited to a new webinar exploring the practical role AI could play in supporting primary care teams as they manage rising workloads and continued digital transformation.
Improving Clinical Coding in Wales with BetterLetter will take place on Wednesday 23 September, from 12pm to 12.45pm BST.
The free session will move beyond the wider debate about the potential of AI in healthcare to examine how the technology can be applied within day-to-day general practice.
It comes as Welsh primary care teams face increasing volumes of clinical correspondence and administrative work, alongside staffing pressures and the need to improve productivity while maintaining consistent, high-quality clinical coding.
The webinar will explore the changing clinical coding landscape in Wales, how AI-assisted technology can support existing workflows and what its wider adoption could mean for practices.
It will also consider the opportunities created by the ongoing digital transformation of NHS Wales, including the wider move of Welsh GP practices to EMIS Web.
BetterLetter launched in Wales in June 2026 and is now available to more than 370 GP practices across the country. The AI-assisted clinical coding platform has been developed specifically to help teams process clinical correspondence by identifying relevant medical information within documents and supporting its incorporation into patient records.
The webinar will include practical insight from Riverside Surgery in Port Talbot, one of the first Welsh practices to introduce BetterLetter. Practice Manager Nikky Wallis will discuss the implementation process and share lessons for other practices considering AI-assisted coding.
