Non-profit monitoring solution offered to care providers

Karantis360 Offers Assisted Living Solution to Care Providers on a Non-Profit Basis During COVID-19 pandemic.

Powered by IBM Cloud and Analytics Technologies, Solution Helps Keep Older Adults and the Vulnerable Safe During Social Isolation.

UK predictive care management start up Karantis360 is now offering its innovative at-home monitoring solution on a not-for-profit basis to assist caregivers in keeping older adults and the vulnerable safe during the COVID-19 crisis.

Karantis360 uses sensors to keep a watchful eye on the daily activities of vulnerable people being cared for in their own home. Running on the IBM Cloud, the solution uses IBM’s AI and advanced analytics to identify and learn an individual’s typical behaviour based on movement, temperature and humidity readings.

Through a mobile app, Karantis360 provides reassurance to caregivers and family members who have access to a more complete picture of the wellbeing of the person in care and can be alerted to changes in normal daily routine which could point to a potential problem.

There is now an urgency to ensure individuals, who are impacted by social isolation, can be monitored for indicators of risks to continued health, due to the current threats of exposure to Covid-19. Just as important, is to enable at-risk older adults and vulnerable patients to stay safely in their own homes, or assisted living facilities. This not only helps to free up much-needed hospital beds, but also drastically reduces the risk of cross-infection.

The solution, which is available across Europe, the USA, Hong Kong and China, has already been installed by a number of public-sector and private care providers in the UK including, York City Council and Consultus Care & Nursing. In Italy, care provider Sole Cooperativa is using the Karantis360 solution to monitor the health of individuals living inside one of its social living facilities.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the solution is being offered to NHS, Local Authority and private care providers at the cost price of £10 per patient per month, for at least 6 months, plus the cost of the smart sensor technology from Pressac. In addition, care providers also have the option of an ‘install now, pay later’ finance agreement with Bluestone Leasing.  Other project partners include Arrow Electronics, Tech Data, Softbox and IndividuALLytics.

Karantis360 is part of the IBM public cloud ecosystem, a new initiative to help clients create, modernize and transform mission-critical workloads on the IBM public cloud. The IBM public cloud offers the industry’s most open and secure public cloud for business.

“It’s extremely reassuring to have access to data which indicates the wellbeing of those in our care.  I am therefore very happy to have a partnership in place with Karantis360, especially during this emergency situation, when it is crucial to keep our eye on the activities of daily living.”Roberta Massi, Presidente, Sole Cooperativa, Italy

“Our ability to help reduce some of the impacts of social isolation and to help & support our social care colleagues in these challenging times through our work with Karantis360 is one of the silver linings that has emerged over the recent weeks, and will help us face the challenge of a significant rise in the discharge process over the coming weeks and monthsRoy Grant, Head of ICT & Digital Services,  City of York Council

“In unprecedented times of enforced social isolation, the Karantis360 solution helps people to live more safely at home and provides reassurance for carers and family members.” Lucy Abbott, a Consultant Geriatrician, UK

“We are delighted to support Karantis360 with our hardware development and production expertise and are committing to reopen our UK factory, in accordance with government guidelines, in order to do so. The combination of smart technology and analytics reduces pressure on the health systems by keeping people out of hospital and living in homely environments where they are most comfortable.”Peter Burbidge, Managing Director of Pressac Communications, UK

“Today there are tremendous personal, social, but also financial incentives to keep people in their own homes. Evidence-based data, research and intelligence are more necessary than ever to support the strategic concept of ageing-in-place. Technologies like the one proposed by Karantis360 can help make our homes capable of a dialogue based on data, supporting a more transparent relationship between the different stakeholders across the care ecosystem. They also help increase safety and reduce the cost of care for end users, their families and care providers”. Nic Palmarini, Director, National Innovation Centre for Ageing

“I’m extremely excited by how technology is being used to support the more vulnerable in our society. It’s not just about monitoring – data is the key to successful care and provides a scaffold for families who will be reassured by knowledge of their loved one’s welfare.”  Professor Nigel Holt, Head of Department (Psychology), University of Aberystwyth, UK

“In unprecedented times such as these, it’s crucial for us to come together to do what we can to support the national and international efforts to stop the spread of the virus, and ensure that every individual’s health is cared for, no matter the circumstances. Together with our partners, we’re able to offer a solution on a not-for-profit basis that can support the heroic efforts of health workers by enabling vulnerable individuals to stay safely in their own homes. It is especially important that during this period of lockdown, families can be reassured of their ability to remotely monitor for changes in the wellbeing of their loved ones.”Helen Dempster, Founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Karantis360
