NHS Digital is offering more than £1 million in funding through the Social Care Digital Innovation Programme. It is hoped that this funding can help local authorities to create innovative digital social care projects.
What is the Social Care Digital Innovation Programme?
The programme focuses on adult social care and how technology can help authorities to respond to the challenges they face. The programme hopes to enable integration, encourage information sharing and support the direct practice of care.
Who is eligible for funding?
The funding offered by NHS Digital and managed by the Local Government Association (LGA), will be available for ten local authorities who will receive £30,000 to design a digital solution. This solution must address a specific issue the authority is facing with their service. Furthermore, eight successful projects will receive an additional £90,000 in funding to help with the implementation of the digital project.
The funding and programme will run for two years and is available for projects that focus on one of the following themes;
- Managing commission and marketing
- Focus on strengths and efficiencies
- Integrated and sustainable health systems.
This project is the third one to run as a collaboration between LGA and NHS Digital in a bid to stimulate digital services that can address social care challenges.
Both the LGA Community Wellbeing Board and NHS Digital say they are looking forward to receiving exciting proposals from local authorities in a bid to improve adult social care.
