2024 – New research* from Zerenia, one of the UK’s leading medical cannabis clinics, has revealed that 4 in 5 pain sufferers have reported a dramatic reduction in pain levels due to the speed of being able to access effective pain relief via telehealth.
According to the findings released this week, 70% of respondents said they were very satisfied with the service from telehealth overall, and 30% were satisfied with telehealth consultations compared to in-person visits.
Telehealth uses digital information and the latest tech innovations to help patients take ownership of their health and access healthcare services remotely, often instantly. Over the past 4 years, telehealth has been a key driver in the behaviour change across the UK’s health system. Following COVID-19’s need for online and remote access to medical professionals and treatment patients alongside the use of self-diagnostic testing, patients are now embracing a more proactive, tech-centred approach to managing their health.
Helen Gale, Clinic Director at Zerenia said, “We have seen a growing trend in the use of telehealth, but our latest research reveals technology’s positive impact on patients needing long-term pain relief.
“The use of communication technologies enables housebound people to access the same levels of healthcare as those able to see a doctor physically. This is not only a huge step towards greater equality in healthcare, but also reduces costs on the NHS.”
Timely pain management is vital to prevent acute pain from becoming chronic. Early and regular use of pain management gives patients a better outcome and reduces costs and risk of medical complications.
Helen Gale continued, “For pain sufferers, speed of accessing pain relief is of paramount importance. Many long-term illnesses are debilitating and prevent sufferers from living an active life.
“Leaving the home and travelling has always been a huge issue for acute and chronic pain sufferers – often worries and concerns about access to pain relief causes stress and ultimately a flare-up; but from our research, which saw 1 in 3 respondents say they found virtual care very valuable for managing pain while travelling, we can see having the reassurance of accessing medication via telehealth is enabling people to travel away from their immediate local area and feel confident that they can access medication when needed.”
The next generation of healthcare will be very much focused on personalised medicine, with technology being used for home health management—from video assessment to patient-specific care tools.
Medical companies like Zerenia spearhead this behaviour shift by delivering a service where patients can access timely and effective pain relief remotely, giving patients a proactive role in their health like never before. As technology continues to advance, the quality of these kinds of medications will only increase for all, regardless of their circumstances. As we move forward, innovations in telehealth will be key in ensuring that everyone suffering from pain has a more fulfilling life and is more involved in their journey to wellness or recovery.
