National survey shows patients are positive about their overall experience at Hampshire Hospitals

A recent national survey has found that patients receiving urgent and emergency care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) are positive about their overall experiences.

More than 300 patients who attended an emergency department at Hampshire Hospitals in February 2024 responded as part of an urgent and emergency care survey carried out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The survey, which sought feedback from patients covering a range of themes about the patient journey and their experiences from arrival to discharge, saw Hampshire Hospitals score either above or at the national average in all questions asked.

The trust received the second highest ranking in the region (South East England) for overall patient experience, with a score of 7.7 out of 10. Hampshire Hospitals also achieved an average score of 8.7 out of 10 for respect and dignity, 8.0 out of 10 for support and care after leaving A&E and 7.4 out of 10 for hospital environment and facilities.

Alex Whitfield, chief executive at Hampshire Hospitals, said: “We are very grateful to our patients for sharing their feedback. I am glad that the majority of patients have had a really positive experience with us and felt well cared for by our teams, especially given the significant increases in the number of patients coming to us for urgent care.

“We are committed to delivering outstanding care and a positive patient experience at Hampshire Hospitals. Our staff and teams work incredibly hard to achieve this each and every day. We know there are always areas in which we can improve, and we are reviewing the feedback to determine what further improvements we can make to enhance the experience our patients have when they are with us.”

The CQC urgent and emergency care survey reports on the experiences of people aged 16 and over who attended an emergency department (Type 1) or an urgent treatment centre (Type 3) at one of 120 NHS trusts in England in February 2024.
