Home Care Professional marketplace Curam partners with Capita to expand tech-led social care solutions for local authorities

LONDON 15 JULY 2024 –Curam, the UK’s largest online home Care Professional marketplace, is striking out to bring accessible, affordable, quality care to local authorities more broadly through a new partnership with Capita, a leading provider of data and technology-driven business process services in the public sector.

The partnership expands on both companies’ experience with the public sector and aims to progress shared ambitions to support social good through digitalisation.

Social care in the UK is critically understaffed, with 152,000 unfilled posts. Low salaries and a lack of career progression have forced Care Professionals out of the sector. While the issue has been addressed during the recent election, there needs to be a focused effort to make caring a sustainable career so local authorities can meet demand and quality levels.

Curam’s bespoke technology and pool of vetted, experienced and well-paid Care Professionals make sourcing and hiring with clear management oversight easy and more affordable for local authorities. The platform is already being used on the frontline by over 100 local authorities and the partnership will enable Curam to expand its solution across Integrated Care to address currently unmet needs.

Ben Weatherall, Co-Founder and Director at Curam, said: “The UK’s ageing population is accelerating demand for Care Professionals, but there is also a critical shortage of skilled workers in the sector, putting real pressure on social care departments in local government. We are proud to be working with Capita to expand local authorities’ awareness of and access to our network of highly trained, vetted Care Professionals who are fairly paid and given progression opportunities to improve retention. Not only will this result in better and readily accessible care for constituents, but also cost savings for councils to reinvest into social care provisions.”

Marianne Betts, Managing Director – Education, Health and Social Care at Capita, said: “Capita collaborates with creative partners to develop solutions, powered by digital technology and human expertise, that benefit customers and communities. In the realm of Social Care, our focus is on empowering individuals who draw on care and support. We are, therefore, excited to announce our partnership with Curam.

“The Curam platform aligns seamlessly with our vision for social care, offering choice and control to users, ensuring they benefit through support from genuinely experienced, properly trained and well paid carers.”
