dxw acquires Helpful Digital’s WordPress business

Helpful’s website clients and some of the team will transition to GovPress, dxw’s secure WordPress website development, hosting platform and support service designed for the public sector.

dxw is expanding its WordPress capability by taking on a new team, and dozens of new clients, doubling capacity and enabling it to offer a wider range of support to customers that work for the public good.

Helpful will focus on its capability-building work helping world-class teams raise their digital performance with practical training, engagement strategies and crisis simulations.

dxw’s offering is formed of the bespoke secure, scalable and robust WordPress platform for public sector organisations, GovPress. The service hosts high-profile websites such as NHS England, the Office for National Statistics and the Government’s blogging and campaign platforms, which is home to important long-running national campaigns such as Fire Kills and Floods Destroy. It makes sure they are able to continue to operate, even under extreme pressure.

The combined team will enable dxw to offer a new, wider range of support to customers working for the public good. This ranges from local government, to central government, healthcare and charities, amongst others. 45 new customers will be added to dxw’s existing roster.

This widened scope and expanded multidisciplinary team gives dxw the means to extend its capability and increase its capacity to meet clients’ needs with an accelerated speed of response. Allowing it to take on smaller, more niche projects.

dxw have responded to this increase in clients by creating a new team to accommodate the change. The new GovPress unit, focusing on supporting clients’ sites, will go from 6 to 11-strong.

Dave Mann, Managing Director at dxw comments, “We’ve worked with our friends at Helpful for over 10 years on projects like the Government’s blogging platform. With our shared origins – we both work exclusively with companies that work for the public good – the combined team will continue to work guided by our shared values.

“As we work towards a smooth handover, we’re looking forward to welcoming the new team and clients. When we work with clients, we’re in it for the long haul. Beyond hosting, we help clients from website design, to delivery, to maintenance and support. Despite the current global health crisis, the team is continuing to assist customers and partners remotely. Our work won’t be impacted as we’re able to operate and communicate really effectively online. It’s essential during this time of uncertainty that we are ‘business as usual’, and we are committed to helping clients do the same.”

Steph Gray, Managing Director at Helpful Digital
comments, “dxw’s GovPress team is made up of long-standing, active, and well-respected members of the WordPress community. We’ve worked side by side for over a decade and they were the natural fit to take on our WordPress business when we decided it was time to focus on our digital communications capability building work. We will work closely with dxw to manage a seamless transition for our team and customers over the coming weeks.”
