Birdie delivers 23 million care visits as platform accelerates digitisation of social care sector

In its 2024 mid-year review, the smart homecare platform shows advances in supporting personalised and preventive home care, reducing hospital visits

Birdie, the smart homecare technology provider, has released its half-year review. Since January 2024, Birdie has supported the delivery of over 23 million home care visits, averaging more than 131,000 visits per day. This is a record-breaking number for the company and its clients, a 40% increase compared to the first half of 2023.

This mid-year review from Birdie comes at a challenging time for health and social care; NHS waiting lists have reached near-record levels, while the new Chancellor has already announced the cancellation of a proposed cap on social care costs. In this demanding environment, Birdie is supporting home care agencies to deliver high-quality person-centred care.

An example of this approach is how Birdie enables care professionals to respond swiftly to medication alerts. In the first half of 2024, 1.6 million medication alerts issued by Birdie were resolved within 72 hours, a 63% increase compared to H1 2023. Resolving these alerts promptly helps prevent further health complications, reducing potential hospitalisation and easing pressure on NHS resources.

Birdie’s half-year impact data also shows a more detailed picture of how homecare is being delivered across the UK. So far this year, 61% of visits using Birdie included digital observations such as mood (13,411,146), fluid intake (15,130,175), and food intake (9,354,008). These observations help create records that care professionals use to provide personalised and consistent care.

To further support the social care sector, this year Birdie also launched ‘Flock,’ an online and offline community that connects care sector professionals to share experiences and learn from one another. Launched in February, Flock has already become the fourth largest care community in the UK.

In the second half of the year, Birdie is continuing to release new products, including rolling out an Absence Management feature. This feature will allow carers to easily book time off via the Birdie app, eliminating the admin time lost to managing absences manually.
