Experts reveal and answer the top 10 most asked questions about Ozempic

  • How to get Ozempic” and similar questions are the most asked, with almost 50,000 average monthly searches in the United States.
  • Queries on how the medication works and what it does come in second.
  • Other common curiosities concern the price of Ozempic and how to get it prescribed for weight loss purposes.

A new study by diabetes awareness website Diabetes Strong reveals that “How to get Ozempic” is the most googled question about the medication.

The study analyzed through Ahrefs the most common questions people have googled, sorting them by category and aggregating the average search volume by topic to discover which “Ozempic” related query is the most popular.

“How to get Ozempic” and similar are the most asked questions, with 48,800 average monthly searches. “How can I get Ozempic,” “How to get on Ozempic,” and “How to get Ozempic online” are other versions of the question that are highly popular on Google.

So, indeed, how can a person get Ozempic?

Ozempic is a prescription-only treatment which is only FDA-approved for people who have type 2 diabetes. The medication, however, may not be prescribed to every individual with type 2 diabetes, as some can regulate their blood sugar levels through dietary adjustments, physical activity, and, occasionally, insulin treatment.

Second on the list are “How does Ozempic work” and “What does Ozempic do”, for a total of 41,000 average monthly searches.

Regardless of the science behind medications always being somewhat complicated, in the case of Ozempic, it can be explained easily for everyone to be able to make informed decisions:

  1. It helps your pancreas produce more insulin when your blood sugar is high
  2. It helps prevent your liver from making and releasing too much sugar
  3. It slows down food leaving your stomach

“How much is Ozempic” is the third most asked question, with 40,300 average monthly searches. This might be because the medicine is known to be expensive, starting at around $900 per single syringe without insurance. The list price is, however, very different from the net cost of the medication, which starts at $300.

Further down on the list, with 40,000 average monthly searches, “What is Ozempic” takes the fourth place.

As mentioned above, Ozempic is a prescription-only treatment approved to treat type 2 diabetes, and it is the brand name for a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonist medication. Its active component is semaglutide, which helps to control blood sugar levels, and it is an injectable drug.

“How to get Ozempic for weight loss” closes the top five most asked questions, with 30,600 average monthly searches.

Despite the drug being extremely popular on social media because of many influencers and celebrities using it for weight loss, it is important to underline how the medication is studied and made for people with type 2 diabetes. It is not FDA-approved for weight loss or chronic weight management. Ozempic and other medications containing semaglutide should not be taken lightly, as they present a series of side effects that can be severe and cause discomfort.

Christel Oerum, CEO of Diabetes Strong, commented on the findings: “Ozempic is one of the most talked about medications of the last few years, and it is only right for people across the country to have questions about it. Researching and making informed decisions are essential when starting a new treatment.

“However, even if you think that this medication might be for you, it is important to consult your doctor, who will be able to direct you towards the most suitable therapy for your physical and mental conditions to avoid any type of future complications and discomfort.”
